Testimonies and Practice of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and Their Relevance for Today’s Conflicts

Presented at the 7th International Conference on Peace and Conflict Resolution, held October 26–27, 2026, at the University of Tehran, this presentation by Bridget Moix, PhD, explores the beliefs and practices that have shaped the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and their longstanding commitment to peace.

Drawing on the Quaker tradition of nonviolence, Moix examines six practices that support peacebuilding, including cultivating hope, seeking truth together, attentive listening, and supporting individual conscience.

The presentation also highlights the role of Quaker organizations in promoting peaceful relations between the United States and Iran through humanitarian assistance, advocacy, diplomacy, and people-to-people engagement, and considers their ongoing efforts to end the current war and build a more peaceful future.
